SPEAR026 - Moodswings vol. 2

Artist: Various
Title: Moodswings 2 EP

  • A: S.P.Y. - Sunshine
  • B: Redeyes ft. Grimm – Out Of My Head
  • C: BCee – Cultural Shift
  • D: Utah Jazz – Survival Of The Fittest

Label: Spearhead Records
Cat: SPEAR026
Released: August 2009

Following on from the huge success of his debut EP, Spearhead label owner BCee drafts in some of the scene’s finest to craft a follow up to last year’s ‘Moodswings’ LP.

Dropping a huge 4 track EP can’t get any better than when you kick start it with a track from man-of-the-moment S.P.Y. ‘Sunshine’ is full of rave stabs and heavyweight bass, but retains enough musical touches to fit in any set.

Redeyes teams up with Canadian beatmaster and vocalist Grimm to wheel out some smooth liquid vibes on ‘Out Of My Head’ a nifty blend of beats and breakbeats infused with lashings of soul.

‘Cultural Shift’ sees BCee add another trademark stunning piece into the mix, and this track will show you (as if you needed any more proof) just how exciting this producer is.

Utah Jazz steps up to round things off with his usual funkified flavours on ‘Survival Of The Fittest’ a stunning mix of slick breaks and soulful sprinklings.

Ian Carey - Get Shaky (Matrix & Futurebound Rmx)

Artist: The Ian Carey Project
Track A: Get Shaky (Matrix & Futurebound ‘Nip n Tuck’ Remix)
Track AA: Get Shaky (Matrix & Futurebound ‘Nip n Dub’ Remix)
Label: 3 Beat Blue (Digital) / Intrinsic Recordings (Vinyl)
Cat: 3BLUE022 / INTRINSIC011
Released: July ‘09 (Digital) / August '09 (Vinyl)

For those who aren’t in the know about this house music legend, Ian Carey has sold over a million records worldwide and is renowned for crafting some of the biggest dance anthems around.

Last year Ian Carey dropped ‘Get Shaky’ upon an unsuspecting Australian public, reaching #2 in the national charts, achieving platinum sales and winning an MTV award. Not bad at all.

Fresh from that success ‘Get Shaky’ sees its UK release with an incredible remix package. As part of that package D&B stars Matrix & Futurebound roll out a sublimely smooth reworking that retains all the energy and poise of Ian Carey’s original and blends it with all the elements that have made them two of the hottest D&B producers on the block.

With the package already seeing plays on Radio 1, Kiss and XFM and the D&B remixes getting plenty of club rotation from the likes of Pendulum and Hospital Records’ London Elektricity we suggest you jump on this quickly!

RPG033 - Sub Zero 'Spin Doc'

Artist:
Sub Zero
Track A: Spin Doc
Track AA: Fever
Label: Ganja
Cat: RPG033
Released: Late July ‘09

Sub Zero might be a new name to some of you out there, but when we tell you that it’s actually one half of one of the dirtiest D&B duos ever unleashed on a dancefloor, we’re sure you’ll be excited about this latest release.

That’s right; Sub Zero is actually Jake from G Dub going for some solo studio action. Taking the lead on this disgusting 12” is 'Spin Doc', a gratifying look into the world of heavyweight dancefloor drum & bass with smashing beats and rinsing synths. Absolutely filthy!

Backing that up is 'Fever', something the ravers will be getting when they hear its skippy opening beats and old skool jungle edits. Wait for the drop though… oooouch! Descending bass bubbles and pounding drums part the way.

This is a hectic debut 12” from Sub Zero, don’t sleep!

DJ Support: Everyone who matters (and even some that don’t)

SPEAR025 - BCee 'Generations EP'

Artist:
BCee

Title:
The Generations EP

A: Generations

B: Consumed (Logistics Remix)
C: Glitter Balls
D: Diagnosis Murder (ft. S.P.Y.)

Label:
Spearhead Records

Cat: SPEAR025
Released: June 2009

By now you should all know the name ‘Spearhead’ well. They’ve released some of the hottest tracks and remixes around recently, including Blame’s immense remix of LAOS’ ‘We All’ which was battered on Radio 1 rather heavily.

Now label owner BCee finally steps up with a massive four track EP of his own. This man has been to Ibiza and back again, he’s worked with Ram Records new boy Lomax, he’s built Spearhead up from nothing to one of the most respected labels on the block, he’s even officially remixed Stretch & Vern’s mid ‘90s classic ‘I’m Alive’, and now he drops the ‘Generations’ EP just for you (well, you and the 1,000s of other Spearhead fans).

Every track on here is beautifully crafted, from Grooverider’s pick of the bunch ‘Diagnosis Murder’ featuring S.P.Y. to Fabio’s favourite, the Logistics remix of ‘Consumed’. An outstanding EP from BCee, a producer to be paying attention to this year.

LIQWEED011 - Netsky 'Prisma'

Artist:
Netsky
Track A: Prisma
Track AA:
Tomorrow’s Another Day

Label:
Liq-Weed Ganja

Cat:
LIQWEED011

Released:
27th July ‘09

Effortless class appears to be the byword for Liq-Weed Ganja as they sign up yet another slick combination of musical drum & bass that’s as happy on the dancefloor as it is on your iPod.

Netsky follows up his collaboration 12” with Crystal Clear with another stunning 12”. On the A side 'Prisma' kicks off with a rolling break and snatches of melody, sweeping atmospherics herald the arrival of the breakdown and you’re awash with subtle keys and filtered strings. Get ready for the bass as the track drops with plenty of low end for your ribs and even more melodic goodness for your ears.

Flip over and 'Tomorrow’s Another Day' offers just as much in the way of musical goodness. Stepping drums and a rising hook are interspersed with synthetic arpeggios and heart warming bass. Throw in some choice vocal snippets and you’re onto a winner.

RPG032 - Serial Killaz 'Mash You Down'

Artist: Serial Killaz
Track A: Mash You Down
Track AA: Live From Studio 1
Label: Ganja
Cat: RPG032
Released: July ‘09

Anyone who keeps their ear to the drum & bass ground will know that the Serial Killaz hit the big time a few years back with a cheeky reworking of Rebel MC’s ‘Junglist’ on legendary jungle label Congo Natty.

Ever since then DJ Hype has been keeping his beady eye on them while rewinding their tracks at every opportunity and offering the duo plenty of support on his Kiss 100 radio show.

‘Mash You Down’ is the first release he’s snapped up for his infamous Ganja imprint and its irrepressible vocal makes the tune as the Killaz’ serious studio skills add a stepping break and sprinkled horn samples to great effect.

‘Live From Studio 1’ gets all dubbed out on the other side with rolling breakbeats and pounds of weighty bass. Undoubtedly not as instantly recognisable as the A side, but definitely no mere filler!

DJ Support: DJ Hype, Nicky Blackmarket, Kenny Ken, Mistajam, Bailey, Crissy Criss and more...
